As I sit here and think about the body as a whole, I am reminded of how much I need each part of my body in order for it to function properly. I would like to believe that my senses would be heightened if one of my body functions didn’t work as it should. But it doesn’t take away the fact that I NEED every part of my body to work just as God created it to function. The same goes for us who are in the Body of Christ.

We all need one another in order for the Body of Christ to function as it should.

1 Corinthians 12 talks about Spiritual gifts and Unity in Diversity. In this chapter, we find out just how important each gift is and how the Holy Spirit gives the ability to operate in that gift.

One of the things that I find most challenging is hearing people say, “Oh this person does it better, you don’t need me.”

If that were true then God wouldn’t have given you the gift and the Holy Spirit wouldn’t be assigned to help you operate in your gift. Never believe that because someone else has the same gifting as you, you aren’t needed. That person may be your mentor as to how you can develop your gift. God always puts us in a circle of people who can help us develop our gifting. Of course He is the ultimate Teacher and Developer, but we also need the company of other believers.

Verse 14 in 1 Corinthians 12 states “In fact, the human body is not one single part but rather many parts mingled into one.”

It’s so awesome to know that I am needed, my gift is needed and without me the body will not operate properly.

As you begin this New Year, start it off with knowing that you are needed and that you are one of the many parts mingled into one body, the Body of Christ. Take some time and read through 1 Corinthians 12 this month, it will not only help you to see how much you’re needed but also help you understand that without you other parts of the body can’t function properly.
